Life Lessons from the Yoga Mat!
When I accompanied a friend to a yoga class one evening after work because they didn’t want to go alone, everything shifted for me. I will never forget that first class. That day yoga stopped me in my hectic, busy = good, tracks. And it has taught me so much ever since.
So in honour of International Day of Yoga, here are the life lessons from my yoga mat...
A few simple breaths make all the difference
Nothing bad will happen if you don’t check your emails for an hour
It’s safe to stop for an hour
It’s incredibly productive to switch off for an hour
No one will think less of you if you say no to plans (because you’d rather go to yoga)
You’re stronger than you think
Your body is amazing because of what it can do, and learn to do
The breath is a powerful tool
You don’t have to do it all, all of the time
What’s important is showing up
Being upside down is fun
Being upside down can provide an incredible change in perspective
It’s safe to wobble and fall
Feelings need to be felt
Everything is in constant motion and nothing stays the same
Crying is great
Some days feel great, some days feel weird, some days feel average, and some days feel rubbish and some, impossible. All of them are fine and all of them are necessary
Your body will tell you everything you need to know. Just listen
Sometimes pushing the boundaries of what feels possible creates magic. Sometimes stillness creates magic
All you need to be is you
