I'm going there... New Year, New Me?

A new year does not require a new you.

I’ve been putting off discussing this for a couple of weeks. However, as we’re in the thick of getting through the last few working days of the year, in the midst of festive celebrations and ramping up for ‘the big day(s)’, AND thinking about what next year will mean for us… let’s take the pressure off a little.

We’re in the middle of winter. The days are shorter and we feel a little more sleepy than usual, a little slower. This is exactly how it’s supposed to be. This time of year is supposed to be deeply nourishing. It is a time for grounding, resting, and calming. It’s natural for us to slow down, to stop, to go inward, become reflective, and use this hibernation time to get closer to ourselves.

January is a continuation of this period, not the start of a new one.

So many of us fight this slowness and sleepiness and try to rush through it at our ‘usual’ pace while we try to think of all the ways we’ll be better, healthier, and different next year.

So let’s jump all the way forward and talk about March… Spring! A time for rebirth, lightness, newness, creativity, outward energy, taking action.

In Spring as the days get lighter and warmer we can turn our faces to the sun and see whats next! We step into our new habits, ventures, goals, and dreams.

I must add… you still don’t need to be a ‘new you’ in Spring. In every season you just need to be more you! But if there are changes you’d like to make, avenues to explore, dreams to begin to make a reality, then the you that rested and nourished yourself through winter will be naturally ready to take the leap forward in Spring.

Case in point…

  • I went to my first ever yoga class in March.

  • I started life as a Yoga Teacher on 1st March 2020.

  • I began my Diploma in Life Coaching on 15th March.

  • 2 years later I began my Life Coaching business on 1st March.

  • And now, I’m planning my Group Coaching offering, which will begin in (you guessed it) March. (Details below).

  • Last New Years Eve, as I watched the fireworks I thought... just keep doing what you're doing. Nothing more.

These were not totally conscious decisions, and in all honestly some of these dates I’m only realising now as I write this.

So take the pressure off. Settle into slowness, get closer to yourself, reflect. And please, on January 1st, remain the same beautiful, incredible you. (And don’t let the inner critic tell you otherwise!!)
